Fireworks on Ku’Damm

by Sirje

In Germany, it is perfectly normal to shoot off rockets on the sidewalks to celebrate New Year’s Eve.

First,  everyone buys up carts-full of fireworks a few days in advance.

Then they drink a lot.

Then they gather in crowds in well-populated areas.

And then they light explosives.

I’m talking about rockets, here, people.

But really, it should come as little surprise. Did you know that in Germany, sparklers are to be used inside? Yes. Not only that, but you hang them on your nice dry Christmas tree while they burn up, sparks flying left and right. Really.

It’s one of the main reasons I love this country.

Happy New Years!!
